Gummi Shark Languages
Sharklish (Spoken)
This is the most commonly spoken language of Gummi Shark society. To the human ear, it sounds like snarls, growls, barks, and gargling. It is less commonly in written form than it is spoken. Instead Gummi Sharks have made a separate language for writing which will be discussed in the next section. When written, Sharklish is very difficult to read, even to a Gummi Shark. Whoever made it may have written with their non-dominant hand… Nevertheless most Gummi Sharks only use the written form of Sharklish when writing warning signs and other very unfriendly messages. All sharkies have agreed the written form of this language looks intimidating!

Sharklic (Written)
Sharklic, or Shark Scratch called by some, is the most universally written language for Gummi Shark societies. It is fairly easy to learn and easy to translate into other Gummi Shark languages. The reason for this is the words of this language are almost literal pictures. Some pups even pick up Sharklic before they learn to speak Sharklish! It is a very convenient language, and many find joy in writing in it.

Gulisian (gul-LEE-shan)
A fairly common language in the parts of Guli Island. To the human ear, it sounds like hisses and chattering of the teeth. Gulisian is a very rough language, a lot of the ways sentences are said in this language would be brutal and rude if said in Sharklish. A lot of Gummi Sharks who do speak Gulisian fit the roughness of their language are are more difficult to offend or harm. The written form of it however has a very shocking contrast to how it sounds. It looks more elegant and regal than Sharklic. The written form of Gulisian may be used by the uppity and snootier members of Gummi Shark society, even if the said users aren’t even sure what they are writing. For this reason, native Gulisian speakers laugh quite a bit at these signs.

Jelligese
This is an ancient language very few speak or even heard of. To the human ear, it would sound as if someone is whispering English, but is too softly spoken and meshed with other sounds to be understood. The written form is very similar to human writing, leading some to believe humans at some point invaded Candy World. Others just think someone tried to copy some human language and claim it as their own. A lot of ancient ruins is littered with Jelligese, however most of these ruins are not found by Gummi Shark kind. Instead they are mostly inland or even in the sky where few can reach… |
Human and Other Species Languages
If taught at a young age, Gummi Sharks are able to learn any language depending on circumstance and the individual! For those who are older, it is a rare occurrence as grown Gummi Sharks are usually set in their ways and want nothing to do with learning languages outside of their species. This can lead to Gummi Sharks getting into a lot of trouble since they would be unable to read or understand speech they do not recognize. This of course depends on the individual Gummi Shark; if they have an open mind, they could easily learn a language apart from their own.
